Chicken eating contest cancelled after competitor chokes to death

A nationwide chicken eating contest at fast-food outlet KFC in Indonesia has been cancelled after a contestant choked to death on a chicken wing,Mailonline reports..

Fredy Jayadi, 45, died after attempting to eat three wings in under five minutes at the restaurant in West Jakarta.Mr Jayadi was taken to hospital after beginning to choke on his third wing. He drank water to try to stop choking, but later collapsed, and was pronounced dead by paramedics.

The 'Eat or Treat' contest offered a prize of $1 billion rupiah (£5,263), and Mr Jayadi had reached the elimination round, reported the IB Times.

But the entire competition, which ran across 239 KFC outlets across Java and Bali, has now been cancelled by organisers O2 Accion...

American Airlines pilot arrested for showing up drunk before flight(Photo)

A copilot for American Airlines was arrested at Detroit Metro Airport today on suspicion of being drunk, forcing authorities to cancel a flight this  morning to Philadelphia.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the copilot, failed a Breathalyzer test administered by police who had been called to the airport's North Terminal about 6:40 a.m., according to airport spokesman Michael Conway.


Police were called after Transportation Security Administration personnel reported that the copilot, who is from Pennsylvania, was acting as if he had been drinking when he passed through airline crew security screening before the flight was scheduled to leave, Conway said.
Conway called the situation "extremely unusual." He said it remains an open investigation, but that police are developing the case to turn over to prosecutors for possible charges. The copilot, who Conway said was 50 or 51, was initially in custody but released after his alcohol level dropped.

An Egyptian passenger plane carrying 82 passengers and a crew of 7 has been hijacked by a man wearing a suicide vest. It was forced to make an emergency landing in Cyprus. 

EgyptAir MS181 was en-route from Alexandria to Cairo when it requested permission to make an emergency landing at Larnaca Airport on Cyprus.

The hijacker made no immediate demands and later allowed Egyptian passengers to disembark, Cypriot state television reported.In a statement issued in Arabic, EhyptAir said, “negotiations with hijacker resulted in the release of all the passengers except cabin crew and four foreigners.”

Beautiful Nigerian Lady Becomes Youngest Doctor In England At Age 21

Beauty and brains! Ola Orekunrin, now 30yrs old from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Nigeria, was born, raised and trained in the UK, where she graduated as one of the youngest medical doctors in England. She is also a trainee helicopter pilot.

While she was studying to become a doctor in the UK, her younger sister fell seriously ill while traveling in Nigeria. The 12-year-old girl, who’d gone to Nigeria on holiday with relatives, needed urgent care, but the nearest hospital couldn’t deal with her condition.

Orekunrin and her family immediately began looking for an air ambulance service to rapidly transport the girl, a sickle cell anemia sufferer, to a more suitable healthcare facility. They searched all across West Africa but were stunned to find out there were none in the whole region.

“The nearest one at the time was in South Africa,” remembers Orekunrin. “They had a 12-hour activation time so by the time they were ready to activate, my sister was dead".
“It was really a devastating time for me and I started thinking about whether I should be in England talking about healthcare in Africa, or I should be in Africa dealing with healthcare and trying to do something about it.”

Orekunrin did the latter. Motivated by the tragic death of her sister, the young doctor decided to leave behind a high-flying job in the UK to take to the Nigerian skies and address the vital issue of urgent healthcare in Africa’s most populous country.

Determined to make a difference in medical practice and health care delivery system in Nigeria, Orekunrin decided to set up Lagos-based Flying Doctors Nigeria, the first air ambulance service in West Africa, transporting victims of medical emergencies, including industrial workers from the country’s booming oil and gas sector. It basically provides critical care transportation solutions to both the private and public sector by selling yearly air ambulance cover plans to states, companies and individuals.

Since then, she has successfully steered the company upwards in achieving its corporate goals and ensuring sustained growth.
Against all odds, I passed my A-Levels with flying colors, started my degree at the University of York at 15. I supported myself all through, working. I wrote my final medical examinations at 21, thus emerging the youngest medical doctor in England,” said Ola Orekunrin.
